Preschool Music Class
A joyful introduction to music and the piano for ages 3½–5
Young children are often fascinated by the piano long before they are quite ready for traditional private lessons. This small group class is designed to give preschool-age children a strong musical foundation while introducing them to the piano in a way that is playful, engaging, and developmentally appropriate.
Rather than beginning with formal weekly assignments and home practice expectations, children will learn through singing, movement, rhythm activities, listening, games, and hands-on time at the piano.
Singing
Singing helps children develop their musical ear naturally. Through songs and simple solfege activities, children will begin to hear and understand musical patterns.
Rhythm
Through movement, clapping, games and simple percussion instruments, children will develop their sense of a steady beat and be able to imitate rhythmic sequences.
Piano Skills
Children will have hands-on time at the piano each week, exploring beginning piano skills in an age-appropriate way. Activities will help them be prepared for formal piano lessons.
Music Theory
We will use games to learn some pre-reading skills such as learning the musical alphabet, basic rhythm notation, musical symbols, and an introduction to the grand staff.

Format: Weekly small-group class with parent/caregiver participation
This class is especially appropriate for families who are interested in piano lessons but whose child may not yet be ready for the structure of traditional private instruction.
